Making An Impact

What are your hobbies? What do you do in your spare time?
I don't usually have a lot of spare time because of my kids. I have a 1-year-old son and an 8-month-old daughter, and most of my spare time goes to them. I also sing and dance at my church, and I'm a youth leader at my church.

What do you like most about summer time in Orlando?
I like the most is the sunshine and the limitless time you have with kids because they don't have school.

What is your favorite vacation destination?
My favorite vacation spot is Connecticut, because I rarely get to see my mother's side of our family. When I get the chance, I like to get up there!

Who is your favorite biblical character and who is your least favorite? Why?
My favorite character is Samuel, because of how strong he was, yet he was still so weak. And even though he fell, he was able to get back up again with strength from God and still God's work. My least favorite is Eve, because I believe if she stayed away from the apple, giving birth wouldn't be so painful.

What do you hope your boys and girls will learn and take with them from YL summer camps this year?
I hope the boys and girls will understand that it doesn't matter what they do that God will always have their backs. For when you walk in sand you sometimes see four footprints, because you're walking with God. But when you see only two foot prints, God is carrying You.

Profile: Young Life Capernaum

Young Life Capernaum is the name given to Young Life’s ministry for those individuals with special needs or disabilities. Capernaum was a town in Jesus' time, and it means "village of comfort."

Just like Young Life, Capernaum gives kids and young adults experiences of fun, adventure, friendship, and an opportunity to have a relationship with Jesus Christ.  Capernaum in Orlando began this year. Young Life in partnership with the Northland Church organize a monthly Capernaum club.

Currently, there are seven Capernaum volunteer leaders who are building relationships with the 15-20 kids who have been coming to club.  Young Life also has a program for able-body kids to be Capernaum buddies who come help with the ministry.

If you are interested, you are invited to come and experience a Capernaum club anytime. Please contact David Muir at younglife.david@gmail.com.

Making a Difference to Kids

Young Life is active in various high schools and middle schools in the area. Young Life is making a difference in kids' lives. Here's an example of how Young Life is reaching kids: John regularly attends basketball practice at the high school where he is a Young Life leader. At first, John did not know the young men on the basketball team, but after weeks of watching practice he began to get to know who they were and exchanged a few short conversations with some of the players. One day, one of the players approached John. "You come to watch us practice a lot don't you?" the young man asked John. "Yes, I do," John said. "That's cool," the young man said. "No one does that."
